Clare Smith
Working on a Bachelors of Art & Design
and a BS in Psychology Aspires to be an Art Therapist and Graphic Novelist

Clare Smith grew up stomping around through the creeks of Chapel Hill. She ran around telling everyone she was macho at the age of ten (while still believing in unicorns) and went through a rather embarrassing, all flannel, all the time, phase in high school. Speaking of which, she graduated East Chapel Hill High School in 2006 and now attends NC State University. There she studies sequential art and psychology to make comics that accurately portray the inside of her brain. There is nothing more inspiring to her than the semi-annual poetry slam at the Lake Eden Arts Festival. Some of her favorite things include Neil Gaiman books, webcomics, puppies, Haribo gummy bears and of course, being treated with respect.
Clare got her start in comics by drawing things like Dolly Parton screaming about being trapped in her wig to amuse her Dad. She loves to make people smile, or even better, to make them think. ‘Awkward Turtle’ is her ongoing webcomic project that is more or less her brain poured into Photoshop via her trusty Wacom tablet.
